Yanmar 424 Series Overview

downloadTractors can be useful for maintaining any type of land, but if you have rough, steep terrain, some models just won’t cut it. That’s why Yanmar offers the 424. It comes with all the attachment points, power, and durability you expect from their tractors along with the ground clearance and 4WD capability you need to tackle your property.

The Tractor

The 424 Series uses a 1.26 liter 3TNV80F three cylinder liquid cooled diesel that produces 21.7 hp and 45 lb-ft. of torque. It doesn’t have a particulate filter, but it still meets Tier 4 emissions standards.

The power from the engine is directed to a dual hydraulic pump. On one side of the pump, 4.3 gallons (16.1 liters) of fluid is moved every minute to power attachments. On the other side, a flow rate of 3.7 gpm (14.1 lpm) provides power for the steering system.

The hydrostatic transmission can propel the tractor to speeds up to 6.3 mph in low gear and 13.1 mph in high gear. Selectable four wheel drive helps with grip, while a high pinion front axle combines with large rear wheels to provide this tractor with just under 10 inches (250 mm) of ground clearance with the stock tires, which Yanmar offers with a choice of agriculture, turf, or industrial treads. Turning radius for this model is 8.5 feet (2.6 meters.)

The rest of the tractor is built for both reliability and comfort. A cast iron transmission case and front axle combined with a full frame chassis helps the tractor resist bumps while reducing the vibrations that reach the operator. A high back seat and dual arm rests make this tractor comfortable enough for a full day of work.

PTO Options

The 424 is designed to handle front, rear, and mid-mounted tools, with the PTO providing up to 18.1 hp.

At the back, there’s a Category 1 three point hitch and a 35 mm shaft that spins at up to 554 RPM. True Position Control lets you return rear-mounted attachments to the same position time and again for greater consistency when using attachments.

The front loader can handle up to 1,200 lbs, going well beyond what you would expect for this class of tractor. This makes the 424 a great choice if you’ll use your tractor primarily with a front loader bucket.

The mid-mounted PTO uses an SAE 16/32 shaft with 15 splines that can rotate at speeds up to 2,057 RPM.

Attachments

The PTO design allows a wide range of third party attachments to be used with this tractor, but the company also builds their own attachments so you can get the most out of your tractor.

For front loading, Yanmar offers the YL210, a curved boom unit that can go up to 79 inches (2,000 mm) high and 53 inches (1,355 mm) ahead of the tractor while digging up to 3.9 inches (100 mm) into the ground. For serious digging, there’s the B65 backhoe. Able to push with almost a ton (923.5 kg) of force, it can dig holes up to 76.5 inches (1,943 mm) deep or swing up to 60 inches (1,524 mm) high. The B65 can move up to 75 degrees in either direction.

For mowing, Yanmar makes the M60, a mid-mounted 60 inch (1,524mm) wide deck that can be set to a cutting height between one and four inches (25.4 to 101.6 mm.)

Any of the compatible attachments can be added to any 424, but Yanmar also sells models with attachments straight from the factory:

Standard – no attachments
TL – front loader bucket
TD – mid-mounted mower deck
TLD – mower and front loader bucket
TLB – backhoe and front loader bucket

Along with the three main attachments, Yanmar also offers a snow blower, front-mounted broom, and grading blade.
