Dixon invented the Zero Turning Radius Mower, and with their Ultra series, they show that they can still lead the market with a quality professional model. By carrying over features from their residential mowers and adding practical solutions for commercial operation, they’re able to deliver something that’s easy to use and maintain while still delivering a quality finish.
Built for the Needs of Professional Landscapers
The Ultra comes with Dixon’s Tri-force cutting deck. It’s constructed using 11 gauge steel and has a deep mowing chamber to get the finish and mulching performance you would expect from a stamped deck without sacrificing durability. The deck can be set to a cutting height between 1.5 to 5 inches using a foot lever, letting you change its position while your hands stay on the controls. The Tri-force is designed for side discharge and mulching, and it can be fitted with a collection system that can store up to 9 bushels using three rear-mounted bags. The entire collection system can be installed or removed in a matter of minutes, letting you switch to the clipping mode that best fits the job at hand.
The deck attaches to an oversized tube steel frame that rides on giant tires – 13 x 6.5 inches on the front and 23 x 9.5 inches. This limits shocks and vibration which are further tamed by the suspension seat to keep the operator comfortable throughout the work day. Fully adjustable, dampened lap bars provide smooth control that can be positioned to be comfortable for users of all sizes.
Working on the Ultra is easy, too. The chassis is designed with easy access to the oil plug, filters and electrical components for quick service, while a removable floor pan makes it easy to clean and repair the deck’s belts, pulleys, and spindles. The blades are mounted on cast iron spindles with greaseable ball bearings for long term durability, while a digital hour meter is included to keep up with the mower’s maintenance schedule.
The Ultra comes from the factory with Dixon’s Fusion cutting blades. These use a tungsten-carbide treatment that doubles blade life and can go up to three times as long as standard blades before needing to be sharpened.
Three Sizes to Fit Your Needs
Dixon offers the Ultra in three versions with two deck sizes:
The 52 uses a 52-inch deck and a 25 hp Kohler engine. Motivation is provided by a pair of Hydro-Gear ZT 3100 transaxles fitted with 10 cubic centimeter pumps. This allows the mower to reach a top speed of 8.5 mph going forward and 5 mph in reverse. Dixon says owners can expect to cover around 3.5 acres per hour when using this model.
The 61 has a 61-inch deck and a larger engine that produces 26 hp. A set of ZT 3400 transaxles and 12 cubic centimeter pumps increases forward speed to 10 mph, which allows this mower to cover an estimated 4.9 acres/hr.
Want more power without increasing the deck size? The 52 SE uses the same ZT 3400 pumps as the 61 and is powered by a 24 hp Kawasaki engine, letting it cut up to 4.2 acres/hr.
