New BCS America Spreader

New BCS America SpreaderThere’s now one more way you can use your BCS America two-wheel tractor to take care of your lawn and garden. The new spreader attachment lets you lay down a consistent layer of soil amendments including compost and sand. Since this attachment is self-powered, it’s easy to hook up, easy to use and gives consistent results at any operating speed.

Built by People Who Know Top Dressing

When BCS decided they needed a top dress attachment for their tractors, they turned to Earth and Turf. This Pennsylvania-based manufacturer specializes in spreaders and aerators covering a wide range of sizes and applications. Together, the companies developed a trailer that fills the gap between Earth and Turf’s TruFlow walk-behind models and their large tow-type top dressers. By using your BCS tractor to pull the spreader, you can get the performance of a self-propelled spreader at a lower cost.

How Does it Work?

There’s no PTO attachment needed to drive the spreader. It just hitches to the back of your tractor. As the trailer’s wheels turn, they operate a chain drive connected to a heavy-duty conveyor belt. Since belt speed is controlled by wheel speed, it always drops the same depth of material no matter how slow or fast you’re going.

The scallop-tread belt runs the length of the bed, pulling material out of the bottom of the bin and depositing it in an even layer across the ground. It spreads out material across a 30-inch wide strip. The trailer is 36 inches wide, and it can straddle raised beds up to 6 inches tall.

The trailer is designed to be used with your tractor’s controls tilted to the side. This gives you a clear view of where you’re dropping material and keeps you from walking over freshly dressed ground. All-terrain tires keep the trailer planted and maintain grip to drive the belt. A lever on the drive mechanism disconnects the chain drive, so you can stop dropping once you reach the end of a row.

A 6.5 cubic foot stainless steel bin holds the top dressing material. The spreader works with dry, loose material including compost, sand and other soil amendments. Since there’s nothing to break material in the bin, bedded manure needs to be chopped up thoroughly before use. The drop rate is controlled by an end gate. It has 13 height settings from 1/8 inch to 1 inch.

Compatibility

This new trailer attachment fits Model 732 and larger tractors. BCS recommends fitting your tractor 5X10 or larger tires to maintain traction.

To attach the spreader to your tractor, you will need a curved coupler. BCS offers two sizes of couplers. The small coupler will work with 732 to 739 tractors, while the large version will work with 749 and larger tractors. If you pull a utility trailer with your tractor, you already have the right coupler for this attachment.
