Most UTVs are either intended to be small off-road trucks or high-speed trail vehicles with prices encroaching into new car territory. What if you just want something that’s affordable, simple and fun? The Bennche Spire 150 has enough power and features to be usable for regular off-road driving while staying small, light and cheap enough to be a great alternative to an ATV. It even comes fully equipped so you won’t be faced with sticker shock loading it up with accessories to make it usable.
Side-by-Side Usability in an ATV-like Package
This model is powered by a 150cc air-cooled engine with an automatic choke and an output of 8.5 hp. To make the most of this power, the Spire comes with a CVT that keeps the engine in its peak powerband when you floor the throttle. There’s no low range, and the drive system only sends power to the rear wheels, so it can’t tackle technical trails. However, by keeping everything simple, this UTV weighs just 467 lbs. That’s just a little more than a 250cc ATV. Likewise, the 65-inch wheelbase makes the Spire about a foot longer than a small ATV, and its 7.9 inches of ground clearance is right in line with this segment. For most users, this is more than enough power and traction to fit their needs.
Space and Storage
Two bucket seats let you bring a passenger along, and at 21.65 inches, the seat height is almost a foot lower than comparable ATVs. Despite its sports-centric design, the Spire still has a small bed that can hold up to 100 lbs. of cargo.
Wheels, Suspension, and Brakes
The Spire is fitted with 19 x 7-8 front tires and 22 x 10-9 rear tires mounted on alloy wheels. This doesn’t just help its stance, it gives the rear extra traction while making the front end light for easy steering with the unassisted rack. The suspension uses double A-arms up front and a swing arm with a solid rear axle in the back. Both the front and rear axles are fitted with hydraulic brakes.
Equipment
Bennche doesn’t offer accessories for this model. Instead, they include just about everything you would want as standard equipment. That includes a windshield, side door nets, a fabric roof, alloy wheels a front bumper and side rock guards. Headlights, tail lights, turn signals and side mirrors are also included, which lets this UTV quality as a neighborhood vehicle in some areas
