Bear Cat GN5200 and GN7100 E Generators

605378Do you need a portable power generation system that can supply enough electricity for a large RV or as a backup for home power? Do you want a system from a brand you can trust? Bear Cat has a reputation for building quality professional-grade equipment, and their GN5200 and GN7100 E generators both use engines from Honda’s ubiquitous GX series. Everything from engine noise to grounding was taken into consideration to make these generators easy to use, while they’re built to a standard that Bear Cat will guarantee for one year of commercial use or three years of consumer use.

GN5200

This generator is powered by a 270cc Honda GX series engine. It has an automatic decompression system, making it easy to kick over with the recoil starter. A heavy duty balance shaft keeps vibration to a minimum, while everything from the gears to the exhaust has been designed for low noise. It has Honda’s Oil Alert system, which automatically shuts off the engine if there isn’t enough oil available to lubricate the engine.

The GN5200 can provide 4,200 watts of continuous power and has a maximum output of 5,200 watts to handle brief spikes caused when electric motors, heating elements, and other high draw devices switch on. This is enough power to run most household appliances including a refrigerator or freezer. This power is accessed via two GFCI-protected 120 volt 20 amp outlets, one 120 volt 30 amp twistlock outlet and one 240 volt 30 amp twistlock outlet.

The GN5200 weighs 154 lbs. It’s built into a frame with wheels and handles for easy transport. This frame also isolates the generator so a ground isn’t needed in most circumstances, but one can be added if required by local regulations. Bear Cat offers a lift bar kit that adds an extra handle for easier loading into trucks and trailers.

GN7100E

Need more power? This generator uses a 389 cc Honda GX engine, retaining all the features of the GN5200’s GX270. This unit comes with an electric starter and a backup recoil starter in case the on-board battery dies.

The GN7100E has the same receptacles as the GN5200, but power is increased to 5,800 watts of continuous output and 7,100 watt maximum output. This lets it handle almost anything you find in a typical household including vent fans for natural gas and propane heating systems.

The GN7100E weighs 190 lbs. with the starter battery installed, and, like its smaller brother, can be fitted with a lift handle kit.
