Preparing Equipment for Storage

preparing equipment for storageWe’d like to forget about our mowers, tractors and other equipment during the off-season, but improper storage can lead to expensive repairs. Fuel systems can clog up, rust can form on cables and housings, and batteries can fail. Taking these steps now will help your landscaping equipment make it through the winter unharmed.

Modern gasoline degrades quickly, even if it’s treated with a stabilizer. To prevent tarnishing and corrosion, empty the fuel system before storage. Most Honda engines have a removable sediment bowl on the bottom of the carburetor. Removing this bowl and opening the fuel valve will dump out the contents of the fuel tank and lines. On other engines, you may need to disconnect a fuel line or use a siphon pump to empty the tank. Once the tank is empty, start the engine to burn off any remaining fuel in the carburetor. As long as it’s not mixed with two-stroke oil, this gasoline is safe to use in your car. Modern fuel-injected engines are less sensitive to stale fuel, and that fuel will be diluted by what you’ve already put in the tank.

Diesel lasts a long time when stored as long as it doesn’t get hot. Summer diesel blends will cloud and solidify at low temperatures. However, this won’t hurt the engine as long as you don’t need to start it. If you think you may need to pull your tractor or mower out in the winter, fill the tank with winter formula diesel. Run the engine for a few minutes to pull this diesel through the fuel system. To prevent algae growth, keep fuel tanks and storage containers full to reduce contact with oxygen.

Natural gas fuel systems require no maintenance. However, if you have a dual-fuel engine, you still need to empty the gasoline side of the fuel system.

Preventing Rust

Clean your equipment thoroughly to remove any dirt that can collect moisture. Use a dry brush or rag to remove dirt from the engine, transmission and hydraulic components. Hand wash the rest of the equipment to prevent water from contaminating oil and hydraulic fluids.

To keep rust from forming, you need to create a barrier between metal components and the moisture in the air:

– Grease bearings to push out dirt and moisture.
– Check painted parts for chips. Apply touch-up paint to exposed metal to prevent rust.
– Clean and lubricate drive chains.
– Apply non-detergent oil or silicone lubricant to cables. Spray or drip the lubricant into one end of the housing until it comes out of the other end.
– Apply silicone lubricant or fogging oil to exposed metal parts.

Don’t cover your equipment with a tarp. Waterproof tarps can trap moisture against equipment, while breathable tarps will get soaked in rain and snow.

Piston rings can seize if they sit for long periods without lubrication. Apply a small amount of oil to the inside of the cylinders through the spark plug hole, then place rags in front of the holes. With the plugs out of the engine, pull the starter handle a couple times or run the electric starter for a few seconds. This will spread the oil across the cylinder wall and push out any excess. Put the plugs back in to seal the cylinders.

Winterizing Pressure Washer Pumps

RV anti-freeze can be used temporarily if you’re facing a sudden cold snap, but you really need to use pressure washer antifreeze long term storage. Unlike RV antifreeze, it has additives that prevent rust. Flush the detergent system and drain all the water out of the pump before adding antifreeze.

Antifreeze can be drawn into the pump through the detergent system. If your pressure washer doesn’t have a soap sprayer, use a float tank or hose and funnel to pour the antifreeze through the inlet. Run the washer until antifreeze is coming out of the pump outlet.

Lead-acid batteries sulfate during storage, reducing their capacity and cranking amps. To prevent this, a light charge needs to be applied with a trickle charger. Check the owner’s manual for charging recommendations. Small batteries used with single-cylinder engines may require special low amperage chargers.

SnowDog: The Easy Way to Get Out Into the Snow

snow dogDo you think a snowmobile would be fun to own, but you can’t justify the price? Are you looking for an off-road vehicle that can easily fit in your SUV or truck? Then a Snowdog may be just what you need. Snowdog’s motor tows can pull you along ice, snow and even bare ground, getting to places out of reach to ATVs and snowmobiles. Add some sleds, and you can bring a friend and some extra cargo.

What is a Snowdog?

This vehicle is classified as a motor tow. In principle, it’s the same idea as a wide area walk-behind mower. If you eliminate the seating position from a machine, you can make it lighter and cheaper without compromising performance. A Snowdog is just an engine, transmission, frame and track. However, it delivers the same snow and ice performance as a full snowmobile at a fraction of the cost. It can also be used on dry ground, opening it up to use year-round.

A Snowdog has a steel frame that surrounds the engine and provides a place for cargo. A removable vinyl cover shields the top half of the frame and helps deflect snow away from the operator. The Snowdog’s three-position handlebar adjusts for riders of different heights. Operators can be pulled along while they’re wearing skis, or they can attach a trailer to ride behind their motor tow.

All Snowdogs are powered by a 13.5 HP single cylinder Briggs & Stratton engine. An electric starter comes standard, so you don’t have to worry about trying to pull start the motor in cold weather. On average, this engine uses a half-gallon of fuel per hour.

The engine and CVT are mounted on top of the frame platform, making them easy to access for maintenance. A chain final drive connects the CVT to a single track. Top speed is 20 MPH. Like a snowmobile, the Snowdog has an engine shut off switch attached to a wrist strap. If the operator falls, the engine shuts off immediately.

Compact B13ME

At 50 x 24 x 30 inches, this model is small enough to fit in a car trunk. Weighing in at just under 270 lbs, it’s easy to drive it up a ramp into the bed of a truck. It can tow up to 330 lbs. on dry ground, and up to 550 lbs. on snow.

Standard B13ME

An 8-inch longer frame makes the Standard 30 lbs. heavier than the Compact. The added track length lets the Standard tow up to 660 lbs. on dry land. When operating on snow, it can tow up to 1,100 lbs.

Standard B13MER

This motor tow comes with a reverse gear, making it easy to maneuver in tight quarters. Otherwise, it’s identical to the B13ME.

Trailers and Accessories

As long as you wear skis and operate on snow, a Snowdog can be used on its own. While you’re experiencing the joys of cross-country skiing without the physical effort, you can also smooth out the trail for other skiers with the ski trail groomer. There’s also a groomer made specifically for snow on fat bike trails.

Want to skip the skis? You have several options. The sled is designed to slide on ice and snow while limiting drift. It has hitches on the front and rear, so several sleds can be towed to increase cargo space. A swiveling seat can be added to carry one passenger, or a fixed wooden chair can be used for one seated passenger as well as a grab handle for a second standing passenger.

Snowdog’s two-wheel trailers work on all surfaces. The cargo semi-trailer has a padded seat and a luggage compartment. The Sport semi-trailer just has a small footplate for the operator to stand on. It has a hitch to attach a sled, adding passenger and cargo space.

The slider suspension replaces the spring trolleys inside the track, improving deep snow traction. Skates can be added to sleds for better ice traction.

For cold weather, handlebar mitts can be added to insulate the driver’s hands. The handlebar bag adds more storage space, and its clear sleeve is perfect for mounting a GPS device.

The engine is guaranteed by Briggs & Stratton for one year of residential use. The protective cover, CVT components, battery, and headlight are covered for 30 days. The wiring harness and control cables are covered for 90 days. Everything else on the Snowdog is guaranteed for 12 months by the manufacturer.

RedMax Chainsaws

RedMax ChainsawsStricter emissions standards and increasing safety concerns have radically changed the chainsaw market in the past 20 years. RedMax has responded with cutting edge technology, building powerful two-strokes that are smog legal and handles with better vibration control. While they’re a well-known brand among landscaping professionals, they also build models that are perfect for residential users who need to cut branches and chop firewood.

Strato-Charged Technology: Two-Strokes with Modern Performance

Introduced 20 years ago, the Strato-Charged engine design addressed common emissions and starting issues with two-stroke engines. The carburetor injects a pulse of pure air before the air-fuel mixture, preventing fuel from exiting the cylinder before it can be burned. This alone is enough to keep emissions low enough to meet stringent regulations. Professional models are EDP A certified, which means they’ll conform to EPA emissions standards for at least 300 operating hours. They also meet CARB emissions requirements, so they’re 50 state legal.

The advantage of this design doesn’t stop there. By using better piston rings and a hemispherical combustion chamber, RedMax’s engines are able to use 20% less fuel than regular two-strokes and weigh 20-25% less than 4-strokes. They’re also easier to start than most two-strokes thanks to a self-purging carburetor.

Vibration Control: Keeping You On the Job

Experiencing constant vibrations through your hands and arms can cause permanent nerve damage, and few devices make more vibration than a chainsaw. The latest studies by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) recommends limiting exposure for an 8-hour shift to vibrations of no more than 5 m/s². Most RedMax chainsaws are below this threshold. However, there are a few models that should be used with vibration-dampening gloves on one or both hands.

Residential Models

The smallest saw in Redmax’s lineup has a 35.2cc engine making just over 2 HP. It weighs 8.6 lbs. It’s only compatible with a 16-inch bar. The chain oiler is adjustable.
Vibration: 8.0 m/s² at the front handle, 5.2 m/s² at the rear handle

RexMax’s most basic model has a 40.9 cc engine that produces 2.5hp. It weighs 9.5 lbs and can be used with a 16 or 18-inch bar. It has a fixed flow chain oiler that stops automatically when the engine is at idle.
Vibration: 2.9 m/s² front, 4.3 m/s² rear

Need more power than the GZ381? A 50.2 cc increases power to 3.2 hp, but weight also increases to 11.2 lbs.
Vibration: 3.4 m/s² front, 4.0 m/s² rear

For bigger jobs, this saw works with a 20-inch bar and has a 55.5cc engine making 3.49 hp. It weighs 12.8 lbs. The chain oiler is adjustable.
Vibration: 2.8 m/s² front, 3.4 m/s² rear

Commercial Models

All commercial chainsaws come with an adjustable flow chain oiler.

This commercial counterpart to the GZ360 has the same engine and works with bars ranging from 12 to 16 inches. It weighs 7.5 lbs.
Vibration: 5.1 m/s² front, 4.6 m/s² rear

A 43.1cc, 2.95 HP engine, and compatibility with bars ranging from 13 to 18 inches make this a good limb saw. It weighs 9.92 lbs.

This model is right at the center of the range with its 50.1cc, 3.35 HP and compatibility with 16 and 18-inch bars. It weighs 11.02lbs.
Vibration: 4.4 m/s² front, 4.3 m/s² rear

A 70.7cc, 5.6 HP engine, and compatibility with bars ranging from 18 to 28 inches make this one of the most versatile saws in the lineup. It weighs 14.1 lbs.
Vibration: 4.0 m/s² front, 5.9 m/s² rear

Need serious tree-cutting power? The 87.9cc engine is RedMax’s most powerful at 6.44 HP. It works with 18 to 28 inch long bars. However, at 16.1 lbs, you may want to look for something smaller unless you’re sure you need the extra capacity.
Vibration: 4.3 m/s² front, 6.7 m/s² rear

RedMax guarantees the GZ381, GZ500, GZ550, and GZ360 for two years of residential use or 90 days of commercial use. All other chainsaws are guaranteed for two years of residential use or one year of commercial use. When used for rentals, all chainsaws are guaranteed for 90 days.

Echo Chainsaws

Echo CS-2511TIt’s easy to see why Echo is a leader in chainsaws. Every model they make is professional quality with long-lasting two-stroke engines and features that simplify maintenance. With a range of models that work with bars ranging from 12 to 36 inches, they fit the needs of everyone from landscapers who need to do a little trimming to professional arborists who manage large areas of forest.

Why Echo?

Every Echo chainsaw is professional quality and comes with a 1-year warranty for commercial use or 5 years for residential use.

Maintenance is easy thanks to their YOUCAN kits. These include everything for common repairs including tune-ups, fuel system repairs and purge bulb repairs. All models have a side-access chain tensioner that lets you make adjustments without removing the case.

Innovative features make them easy to use. The G-Force pre-cleaner uses centrifugal force to separate large dust particles before they reach the filter. The i-30 starting system adds a secondary spring that helps kick the engine over when it reaches the top of the combustion chamber.

What Should I Look for When Buying a Chainsaw?

Bigger is not better. A one or two-pound difference may not sound like much, but after a day of cutting wood, the added weight can really take a toll on your body. The weights listed below are for a chainsaw without a bar, fuel or oil. Expect a bar to add between two and four pounds depending on its length, plus another pound or so for fuel and bar oil.

Echo’s top handle models end in “T.” These are compact and easy to control from the top when working in a tree or cutting low-hanging branches. All other chainsaws have a rear handle. This gives the user greater control for general use, including trimming branches, cutting firewood and felling trees.

Most models can use two or more bar sizes. Choose a chainsaw and bar combination that is an inch or two longer than the largest pieces of wood you intend to cut.

This is the lightest gas-powered chainsaw available in America at just 5.2 lbs.
The 25cc engine has a G-Force air pre-cleaner. This model is compatible with 12 and 14-inch bars.

Need more power? The CS-271T has a 26.9cc engine and the i-30 starting system, but only works with a 12-inch bar. It weighs 6.6 lbs.

With 12 and 14-inch bar support and a 30.1cc, this saw is a good choice for residential users. It weighs 7.7 lbs.

A slightly larger 30.5cc engine and i-30 starting system make this an easier-to-use alternative to the CS-303T. It weighs 8.8lbs.

Despite a larger 34cc engine, this model packs in all the features of the CS-310 and weighs exactly the same.

This new model has 20% more power than its predecessor, the CS-490. A 50.2 cc engine drives either an 18 or 20-inch bar. It weighs 10.4 lbs.

CS-620P and PW
This is Echo’s most flexible chainsaw, as it can use 16, 18, 20, and 24-inch bars. It has a 59.8cc engine and weighs 13.7 lbs. The PW has a wrap handle, giving you more options for hand positions.

This is Echo’s most powerful top handled chainsaw. It has a 35.8cc engine with a G-Force pre-cleaner and works with 14 and 16-inch bars. The CS-355T weighs 7.7 lbs.

Aside from the rear handle, this saw is identical to the CS-355T. It weighs 8.8 lbs.

CS-370 and CS-370F
This saw checks all the boxes for general professional use. It comes with a 36.3 cc engine, i-30 starting system and an adjustable oiler. The CS-370 supports 14, 16 and 18-inch bars. The CS-370F uses a FasTension tool-less chain tensioner and a 16-inch bar. Both versions weigh 10.1 lbs.

This model is identical to the CS-370, but it uses a 40.2cc engine.

The 45cc engine drives a 16 or 18-inch bar. It weighs 11 lbs.

The lightest chainsaw in its class, the 490 comes with a 50.2cc and G-Force pre-cleaner, yet it weighs just 10.6 lbs. This model is compatible with 16, 18 and 20-inch bars.

CS-590 Timber Wolf
With a beefy 59.8cc engine and support for 18, 20 and 24-inch bars, it’s no wonder this saw received the Handyman Seal of Approval. It weighs 13.2 lbs.

A 66.8cc engine and support for 20, 24 and 27-inch bars make this chainsaw a great choice for tree felling. It weighs 14.8 lbs.

Echo’s most powerful saw comes with an 80.7 cc and works with 24, 27, 32 and 36-inch bars. It tips the scales at 16.8 lbs.

Vortexx Homeowner Pressure Washers

Vortexx Homeowner Pressure WashersLet’s face it: most homeowner and residential equipment isn’t built for a need, it’s built to meet a price point. Nowhere is that more true than pressure washers. Most residential models offer little cleaning power, and their cheap components can start leaking after just a season of use. Fortunately, Vortexx makes pressure washers that fill in this gap between low-quality equipment and pricey commercial washers. Their Homeowner and Prosumer models use the same aluminum frames as their commercial models and come with high-quality components from Honda and AR pumps.

What Makes Vortexx Better?

It starts with the pump design. Instead of the low-quality wobble pumps found in most consumer washers, Vortexx fits their residential models with AR axial pumps. These are a good alternative to commercial triplex pumps, offering a longer service life at a reasonable price. On average, owners can expect to get two to three times as much use from one of these pumps as they would from a wobble pump. These are paired with unloaders that manage pressure shocks from turning the wand on and off, further extending pump life.

These pressure washers use Honda GC and GX Series engines. These are the same engines used in high-end consumer lawnmowers and small professional equipment. Along with Honda’s trademark reliability, both models offer low fuel consumption, easy starting, and low noise, making them pleasant to work with.

Like their professional models, Vortexx builds the frames for these pressure washers by welding aircraft-grade aluminum frame. That means you’ll never have to worry about rust. This frame has integrated holders for the hose and wand as well as Vortexx’s Tow & Stow handle, which folds down out of the way for storage and transport. Large tires make it easy to roll these washers into place to begin work.

Vortexx makes three models suited for everything from household to light commercial work.

Homeowner VX10101D

Power comes from a Honda GC160-QHA, which drive an RMV Series AR Pump RMV2G25D direct drive pump with an AR42118 unloader. Total output is 2,500 PSI at 2 GPM or 5,000 cleaning units.

The gun has a 19-inch lance extension that is compatible with M22 fittings. It connects to the pump with a 25 foot Easy Coil non-marking hose. The Homeowner rides on pneumatic tires.

Homeowner+ VS10202D

Need more power? The Homeowner+ uses a GC190-QHAF engine with an RMV25G30D-EZ pump and AR42118 unloader with thermal valve pump protection. The result is an output of 2,700 PSI at 2.5 GPM (6,750 cleaning units). It comes with a 30-foot hose.

Prosumer VX20303D

Need something powerful enough to handle light commercial use? The Prosumer has some upgrades to make it a good choice for car detailing or occasional professional cleaning tasks.

This starts with the use of a commercial-grade Honda GX200-QX2 engine. AR provides an SJV Series SJV25G27D-F7 axial pump and an AR2858 unloader, Together, this combination pumps out 3 GPM at 2,750 PSI (8,250 cleaning units). The frame rides on foam-filled tires, so you never have to worry about airing them up. A 50-foot hose rounds out the package, giving you extra reach.

Vortexx’s selection of accessories lets you tailor your pressure washer to your needs.

Need more reach? You can upgrade to a 50-foot hose and a longer lance. There are also attachments to make deck and gutter cleanup easier.

Want to spray detergents with your pressure washer? Add a chemical injector kit. How about laying down a thick layer of soap on your car or boat? The turbo foamer attaches to the end of the wand to draw soap directly from its reservoir, creating a wet foam that’s perfect for car wash soap.

Nervous about doing damage when you’re using high-pressure tips? Want a way to get an even spray when covering large areas? The TPL turbo nozzle has a spinning end, creating a spiral pattern of spray. This turns your concentrated spray into a wide stripe that won’t erode surfaces.

The frame is guaranteed by Vortexx for a lifetime, excluding the tires and paint.

AR guarantees the pumps used in these pressure washers for one year.

Honda guarantees the GC-Series for two years of residential use, while the GX is guaranteed for three years. Vortexx fills these engines with Opti-4 oil. If you continue to use this oil, Opti-4 will guarantee the GC Series for another two years and the GX Series for another 3 years.

Multi-One 12 Series

Multi-One 12 SeriesDo you hate having to step up and down when getting in and out of your loader? Wish your bucket had a little extra reach? The Multi-One 12 Series may be just what you’re looking for. It has a low cab, but thanks to its independent four-wheel steering, this loader has the maneuverability of Multi-One’s other mini-loaders. Multi-One also offers this loader with an extra-long boom for higher loading and unloading.

A Different Take on Loader Design

Despite the name, the 12 Series is not bigger than the 10 Series. Its capabilities are close to that of the 8 Series, but its design is something totally different from the rest of Multi-One’s mini loaders. Instead of using a hinged platform for steering, this loader has a fixed platform with all-wheel steering, rotating each wheel independently. The result is the same tight turning radius in a package that has a lower seating position and overall height. Compared to the 8 Series, it’s three-and-a-half inches longer and an inch-and-a-half shorter with a much lower cab height. This makes it perfect for jobs that require frequent stops and starts.

The 10 Series is powered by the same 40 HP Yanmar 3TNV88 Diesel as the 8.4+ and 8.4 S. This engine drives a hydraulic pump that outputs 13.7 GPM. Need more power? Multi-One offers a high flow pump that works in tandem with the original pump to boost output. As equipped, this loader can lift up to 2,698 lbs. with the boom retracted and has a tipping load of 3,373 lbs.

The other big difference between the 12 Series and other loaders is its telescopic boom. The 12.4 and 12.4 2V have a boom that can reach a height of 94.5 inches, which is about average for the lineup. However, the 12.4 T and 12.4 T 2V use a boom that has a maximum lift height of 135.8 inches, 17 inches higher than the 8 Series.

Multi-One also gives you a choice in operating speed. The 12.4 2V and 12.4 T 2V have a two-speed transmission, delivering a top speed of 6.2 MPH in low gear and 12.4 MPH in high gear. The 12.4 and 12.4 T have a single speed, reaching 8 MPH.

Since this is a new design, there is still work to be done to make Multi-One’s long list of attachments compatible with this machine. Currently, there are 6 tools that will fit this loader:

General bucket – This is the same type of bucket you’ll find on a front loader.
Combo bucket – This hinged bucket can be used as a regular bucket, or as a grapple.
Heavy-duty silage fork – Long, replaceable teeth and a hydraulic clamp make it easy to move loose and bailed silage.
Pallet fork – Available in three sizes, this attachment has forks can adjust in and out up to 39 inches to fit any size pallet.
Snowblower – These two-stage snow throwers have a 200-degree electrically-operated chute. The 12 Series is compatible with models that have a working width of 39.4 to 55.1 inches. Adjustable wheels make it easy to get the same auger height each time you set the attachment on the ground.
Sweeper with collector – The brushes can clean any pavement, whether it’s part of a parking lot, sidewalk or warehouse. A built-in water sprayer cuts down on dust, while an optional brush reaches into corners.

The 12 Series is also compatible with the tilt adapter. This plate fits between the boom mount and the attachment, adding 14.5 degrees of rotation in both directions. This lets buckets work on uneven surfaces and gives more approach options when using a fork.

Vortexx Electric Pressure Washers

Vortexx Electric Pressure WashersGas-powered pressure washers deliver a lot of cleaning power, but they’re not the best choice for all situations. Noise, weight, size and added maintenance make them a poor choice for cleaning fleets, using at home or carrying around to customer facilities and homes. To serve these needs, Vortexx now makes two electric power washers. They combine AR Pump’s best electric hardware with the corrosion-proof carts and clever design that make Vortexx a leading choice for people who depend on these machines for their living. If you need a better home cleaning system, or you have a business in auto detailing or heavy equipment cleaning, these may be exactly what you need.

VX50101E Electric Prosumer

This pressure washer bridges the gap between homeowners who want serious power and professionals who need a lightweight machine. The entire unit including the cart, pump, hose, and wand weighs just 75 lbs.

Power comes from a 1.7 HP AR610 120 volt induction motor that runs a triplex pump with ceramic plungers and industrial-grade seals. The maximum output is 1,350 PSI at 1.9 GPM (2,565 cleaning units.) Built-in GFCI protection prevents shorts when connected to any outlet, and thermal protection shuts off the motor before the pump overheats. It comes with a 35 ft. power cord and a 25-foot hose.

The convertible design lets you carry the pump system or move it around on a cart. A caddy has the mounts needed to carry the hoses, power cable, wand, and nozzles. Vortexx’s Tow & Stow handle keeps the unit compact during storage and transport.

Like Vortexx’s other pressure washers, this model is built on a frame made from bare aircraft-grade aluminum, so there’s no need to worry about flaking paint or rust. It rides on pneumatic tires, making it easy to move around on turf and uneven surfaces.

VX50202E Electric Professional

Take everything that makes the Prosumer great, add more power, and you get this electric pressure washer.

The VX50202E uses an AR630 TSS 2 HP induction motor that drives a triplex pump. This combination delivers 1,900 PSI at 2.1 GPM (3,990 cleaning units.) It has the same power cord and hose length as the prosumer.

Need a washer that can shift caked-on grease and oil, or remove stains from concrete? The entire unit is hot water ready, handling temperatures up to 180°F. The added heat melts away oils and petroleum products, cleaning better than the most powerful cold water pressure washers. There’s no onboard heater, so you’ll need to add one in-line with the water source.

If it’s compatible with a gas-powered Vortexx pressure washer, you can probably use it with these new electric models.

You can fit an 18 or 24-foot telescoping lance if you connect it to the hose with an M22X plug adapter. Add a U-shaped gutter adapter to the nozzle, and you can clean out gutters without getting on a ladder.

Do you mostly work on floors, cement, and decks? The heavy-duty surface cleaner can handle hot water, while the four nozzle deck cleaner makes quick work of cleaning wood surfaces.

Need to remove coatings? The sandblasting kit draws sand in with the water, delivering serious abrasion power without the dust of air-based systems.

Washing vehicles? The turbo foamer turns your pressure washer into a foam blaster, laying down a thick layer of snow foam soap.

The pumps are guaranteed for one year of use by AR, while the frame comes with a lifetime warranty from Vortexx.

Multi-One 10 Series: Serious Power and Flexibility in a Small Package

Multi-One 10 SeriesDo you like the idea of the flexibility of a mini-loader, but need serious power? The 10 Series still has Multi-One’s trademark compact design, but it delivers enough power to rival full size tractors. Like other mini-loaders, it works with a wide range of attachments to fit almost any use from farming to demolition.

How powerful is Multi-One’s strongest mini-loader? When equipped with back weights, the 10 Series has a tipping load of 5,952 lbs. The boom can lift 4,762 lbs. when retracted, and 3,748 lbs. when fully extended. To put it another way, if you mount some forks to the front end of this loader, it can lift a full-size luxury car. This loader can exert up to 5,732 lbs. of pushing force, which is enough to slide around a full-size SUV. The maximum lift height for the boom is 126.4 inches, so it can do all this while reaching as high as a full-size front end loader.

Top speed for the 10 Series is 20 MPH. If you get the optional two-speed transmission, it can reach 24.8 MPH in top gear. Both the wheel motors and boom are hydraulically-operated. That means you can set the electronic throttle using a single dial to match your workload. The system’s pump moves up to 25 GPM and comes with a cooling system for reliable performance through the workday.

The wheels mount to an articulated platform. This lets the axles swivel, taking tight turns without scrubbing on turf. The loader is small, too. At 59 inches wide and 126 inches long without a front-mounted tool, it can get in spaces that are impossible with a comparable front loader.

The 10.8 is powered by a Yanmar 4TNV98 that produces 72 HP, while the 10.9 uses a Kohler 2504 TCR rated at 75 HP. Both models have the same hydraulic pump capacity, speed, and lifting capacity. That means the choice is down to your preferred engine manufacturer.

Tools and Attachments

Multi-One makes 85 compatible tools for the 10 Series covering jobs ranging from lawn care to warehouse management. Here are just some of the ways you can use your loader.

Looking for an alternative to a front end loader? The 10 Series is compatible with three kinds of standard buckets, a combo bucket with hydraulic jaws, a crusher bucket that breaks down rocks, two kinds of grapple buckets and a screening bucket.

Need to tear down construction? You can fit the 10 Series with a dozer blade, grader, ripper or demolition jaw. Building something new? Multi-One makes a cold planer to prepare damaged pavement for repair, a cement mixer to make concrete on the go, and a concrete mixing bucket to transport concrete from the truck to where you’re working. Thanks to the boom’s long reach, you can pour concrete in areas that are out of reach to other equipment.

This mini-loader is perfect for taking care of horses and cattle. The stable packer mucks out stalls in one motion, the horse arena harrow smooths down dirt, and the screw feed pusher and hay grapple make it easy to feed your livestock. Have a small plot that you’re farming? You can fit your loader with an array of harrows and plows.

Do you have a facility with large parking lots? Keep them clear with the snow blower, snow blade, rotary sweeper and street washer. Need to take care of lawns and gardens? You can fit the 10 Series with a range of tools including mowers, hedge trimmers, and tree shears.

The 10 Series comes with a ROPS-mounted roof to shield the operator from the sun. You can add more weather protection with the enclosed cabin. For winter, you can add a heater and a heated seat. Want to work in the summer? An air conditioner can be added to the cab.

Traction is excellent from the factory, but if you want top performance on soft ground, you can swap the wheels with a rubber track system.

Working on roads and parking lots? Need to work nights? Add some visibility by adding LED road lights.

Multi-One guarantees loaders and attachments for three years. Kohler guarantees their engine for three years or 2,000 hours. Yanmar guarantees their engine for two years or 2,000 hours, but some major components are guaranteed an additional year.

New BCS America Spreader

New BCS America SpreaderThere’s now one more way you can use your BCS America two-wheel tractor to take care of your lawn and garden. The new spreader attachment lets you lay down a consistent layer of soil amendments including compost and sand. Since this attachment is self-powered, it’s easy to hook up, easy to use and gives consistent results at any operating speed.

Built by People Who Know Top Dressing

When BCS decided they needed a top dress attachment for their tractors, they turned to Earth and Turf. This Pennsylvania-based manufacturer specializes in spreaders and aerators covering a wide range of sizes and applications. Together, the companies developed a trailer that fills the gap between Earth and Turf’s TruFlow walk-behind models and their large tow-type top dressers. By using your BCS tractor to pull the spreader, you can get the performance of a self-propelled spreader at a lower cost.

How Does it Work?

There’s no PTO attachment needed to drive the spreader. It just hitches to the back of your tractor. As the trailer’s wheels turn, they operate a chain drive connected to a heavy-duty conveyor belt. Since belt speed is controlled by wheel speed, it always drops the same depth of material no matter how slow or fast you’re going.

The scallop-tread belt runs the length of the bed, pulling material out of the bottom of the bin and depositing it in an even layer across the ground. It spreads out material across a 30-inch wide strip. The trailer is 36 inches wide, and it can straddle raised beds up to 6 inches tall.

The trailer is designed to be used with your tractor’s controls tilted to the side. This gives you a clear view of where you’re dropping material and keeps you from walking over freshly dressed ground. All-terrain tires keep the trailer planted and maintain grip to drive the belt. A lever on the drive mechanism disconnects the chain drive, so you can stop dropping once you reach the end of a row.

A 6.5 cubic foot stainless steel bin holds the top dressing material. The spreader works with dry, loose material including compost, sand and other soil amendments. Since there’s nothing to break material in the bin, bedded manure needs to be chopped up thoroughly before use. The drop rate is controlled by an end gate. It has 13 height settings from 1/8 inch to 1 inch.

This new trailer attachment fits Model 732 and larger tractors. BCS recommends fitting your tractor 5X10 or larger tires to maintain traction.

To attach the spreader to your tractor, you will need a curved coupler. BCS offers two sizes of couplers. The small coupler will work with 732 to 739 tractors, while the large version will work with 749 and larger tractors. If you pull a utility trailer with your tractor, you already have the right coupler for this attachment.

Multi-One Attachments for Groundskeeping

Multi-One Attachments for GroundskeepingWhat does it take to maintain the ground at large facilities? Sometimes you have to be a landscaper, other times you need to do building maintenance, and occasionally you need to be a construction worker. How do you handle a wide range of tasks without a large fleet of equipment? With a Multi-One mini-loader. With dozens of tools to choose from, one machine can handle almost any job. Here are just some of the attachments they offer for grounds keeping.

When you need to move dirt and materials, you have several options. The high tip bucket is just like the ones you’ll find on front loaders. The combo bucket adds a joint between the back plate and the rest of the bucket, letting you use it as a standard bucket, a grapple or a dump bucket.

The grapple bucket pairs the bucket with a long-toothed grapple that grips onto branches, logs, rocks, and other loose material. If you need to tear out material, the demolition grapple bucket has a sharper edge and stronger teeth.

Multi-One offers both spike and core aerators to fix soil compaction and ready lawns for overseeding. These attachments have adjustable support wheels to get a consistent hole depth. Since they’re mounted to the boom, it’s easy to lift the tines out of the ground before making turns.

Need a standard mower? The Tornado lawnmower has a collection system built into the top of the deck, letting you dump out clippings like a high lift bucket.

The flail mower makes quick work out of thick brush. It’s available as a standard front mount attachment or mounted to a side shifting arm to reach into gutters and mowing steep slopes. The side flail mower is perfect for tackling extremely thick vegetation. For tall grass, Multi-One makes a sickle bar mower.

Want to save time trimming around landscape features? The inter-row mower’s side-shifting mount, low profile and built-in shock absorber make it ideal for trimming around bushes and fence posts.

Hedge cutter

This tool lets you drive by hedgerows and bushes, trimming them down to a uniform length. It’s available with a single vertical bar and with vertical and horizontal bars that let you trim both the sides and top of bushes with one pass.

Bulk Materials Hauling

If you need to move palletized material, Multi-One makes a fork to fit your needs. That includes a standard pallet fork, as well as versions with a hydraulic clamp for awkward objects and a side shift to reach into corners.

If you can wrap straps around it, you can lift it with the jib crane. The standard crane has a lifting capacity of 440 lbs. The telescopic jib crane extends from 43 to 66 ½ inches and has a lifting capacity of 1,100 lbs.

The big bag lifter carries oversize bags full of leaves, compost, mulch, and other bulk materials. Side bars keep the bag from swaying while in motion. This attachment can lift up to 2,645 lbs, but the actual weight limit may be lower depending on the capabilities of your mini-loader.

The landscape pot clamp gently lifts clay pots and roof balls to position them for planting and landscaping. The jaws can grab objects ranging from 10 to 47 inches.

This attachment holds almost 32 gallons of lawn chemicals or detergents. With the bar fully extended, it can cover 59 inches with each pass. It also has a wand for spot treatment connected to a 164-foot hose.

Solar Panel Washer

A 9 foot long soft-bristled rotary broom wipes away dust and dirt to keep your facilities’ solar panels working at maximum efficiency. This broom mounts to a rotating boom, letting you clean panels mounted at any angle.

Aerial Work Platform

This platform safely lifts workers up high to reach windows, light fixtures, and tree branches. Two models are available, reaching a working height of 27.5 or 32 feet.
