Exmark Radius line of commercial ZTRs – S-Series

Exmark S SeriesAny manufacturer can pick up some off-the-shelf parts and build a mower, but it takes a lot of attention to detail to build something that really stands out. With the Radius S-Series, Exmark worked to make minor annoyances like spindle lubrication and deck height adjustment trouble free so you can spend less time working on your ZTR and more time using it.

Power

The S-Series is powered by a 21 hp Kohler Confidant engine. This commercial-grade motor has several features to ensure a long life and reliable performance: the cyclone air cleaner removes most dirt and dust before it reaches the air filter, keeping the motor clean while reducing filter maintenance. The lubrication system is fully pressurized, uses an automotive-style filter for longer oil life and includes an oil cooler to help keep temperatures under control.

This engine drives a pair of Hydro Gear ZT3400 transaxles. These have shock valves to protect the hydraulics and an external oil filter, making them easy to maintain. They can propel the mower to a top speed of 9 mph when going forward and up to 5 mph in reverse. The motors are controlled by lap bars that can be adjusted for height as well as the total distance they can be moved forward and back, ensuring a comfortable reach for any operator. The PTO uses a maintenance free Warner Electric MagStop electromagnetic clutch rated at 125 ft-lbs.

All this equipment is mounted to a heavy duty frame made of thick tubing that allows major components to mounted low for increased stability and traction on slopes. Fuel is stored in a 7-gallon tank directly below the seat with a window positioned so that it can be checked from the operator’s position.

Decks

The Radius S-Series is available with a full-floating UltraCut Series 3 deck set-up from the factory for side discharge. It can also be used for bagging and mulching with optional equipment. This fabricated deck uses a 10 gauge steel top plate with 7 gauge side skirts. Exmark offers this mower with a choice of 48, 52 and 60-inch width decks.

Exmark also makes a version of the S-Series with a 60 inch rear discharge deck. Instead of sending all the clippings through a small chute, it spreads them across the width of the deck, preventing clumping while reducing fuel consumption and shortening the deck’s overall width. The rear discharge deck is a great choice if you need to maneuver around landscaping or regularly cut through thick, tough grass in areas like ditches. There are even bumpers on the sides of the deck so you won’t damage obstacles or the side skirts if you get too close.

With any deck, the height is adjustable using a foot lever. This lever has a clearly laid-out chart next to it, making it easy to find the height you want. These decks also use Exmark’s exclusive sealed spindles, eliminating the need for maintenance.

Accessories

This mower comes with a foldable tubular ROPS that is designed to mount accessories including a sunshade and LED lighting. If you operate on rough terrain, the high-backed seat can be upgraded with a suspension system to help smooth out bumps, and a small trash bin can be added to store cans, bottles and other debris picked up while mowing.

Plates can be added to seal the UltraCut’s mowing chambers for mulching, while there’s an impeller-driven clipping collection, drawing and compacting clippings to keep the blades from bogging down while increasing total storage capacity. The company also offers a trailer-style jack, making it easy to lift the deck for cleaning and blade access. Worried about flats? Upgrade the caster wheels with a set of flat free tires.
